ATKV Hartenbos Resort - Western Cape

In late 2016, McTimber Structures embarked on an exciting and extensive project to assist with the refurbishment of the ATKV Hartenbos Resort in the Western Cape.

The developers envisioned a timber walkway connecting the shopping centre to the beachfront and a deck overlooking the playpark. They aimed for a natural, holiday ambiance and entrusted McTimber Structures to realize this vision. “We were certainly up for the job,” says Gareth McKenzie, owner of McTimber Structures.

Project Specifications

The project demanded meticulous planning and coordination, especially in transporting materials to the remote beach site. McTimber used:

  • 2,500m² of Balau decking and cladding
  • 60 tons of CCA treated pine
  • 40 tons of CC treated pine turned poles
  • 300,000 stainless steel screws and other hardware

The timber decking, cladding, and hardware were transported from Cape Town, while the poles came from Oudtshoorn.

“The McTimber team relished the challenges this substantial project presented. We had to deliver high-quality work within a tight timeframe. Seeing the final product seamlessly integrate into the resort’s overall revamp was incredibly rewarding,” says Gareth.

The developers were thrilled with the outcome, and the resort opened on schedule for holiday-makers to enjoy their summer festivities.
